Presentation Response
I had the pleasure to do my presentation on Martha Colburn. I love how authentic and unapologetic her work felt. She does everything by hand rather than transitioning with technology, which I feel like very few people do nowadays. My favorite piece of hers was Cats Amore. Marlon Riggs’ story was really inspiring. I frequently forget how fortunate I am to have not had to face basically any discrimination during my lifetime, so I can’t imagine being a double minority (black and gay) and facing the hardships he did. He was so resilient brave to turn those struggles into art. I loved his sense of humor. I really enjoyed the “snap” sequence we watched. I think my favorite piece I saw of Guy Madden’s was The Dead Father because of just how purely bizarre it is. He has a distinct style that reminded me a lot of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari because of its expressionist and surreal characteristics. I have been really intrigued with the method of c...
