Presentation Response

I had the pleasure to do my presentation on Martha Colburn. I love how authentic and unapologetic her work felt. She does everything by hand rather than transitioning with technology, which I feel like very few people do nowadays. My favorite piece of hers was Cats Amore.

Marlon Riggs’ story was really inspiring. I frequently forget how fortunate I am to have not had to face basically any discrimination during my lifetime, so I can’t imagine being a double minority (black and gay) and facing the hardships he did. He was so resilient brave to turn those struggles into art. I loved his sense of humor. I really enjoyed the “snap” sequence we watched.

I think my favorite piece I saw of Guy Madden’s was The Dead Father because of just how purely bizarre it is. He has a distinct style that reminded me a lot of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari because of its expressionist and surreal characteristics.

I have been really intrigued with the method of crowdsourcing since Andre did a presentation on it in my filmmakers and scholars’ class. The best part of Aaron Koplin’s work to me is that connection between business and art. Taking data and making it visually pleasing and digestible is really unique and special.
